The
Sweetness of God
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea,
sweeter than honey to my mouth! Psa
119:103
More to be desired are they than gold, yea,
than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psa 19:10
Seventh
Heaven
I have been meditating on the goodness of God.
And there’s nowhere to find the answer to that rousing
question than in his word.
It is there that his goodness and majesty and glory are
laid out in thunders of claps.
It’s that kind of thing which stirs the heart, and
floods it with power.
All of this earth, Lord, all of it, mine?
O
LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set
thy glory above the heavens.
Out
of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of
thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
When
I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which
thou hast ordained;
What
is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest
him?
For
thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with
glory and honour.
Thou
madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things
under his feet:
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
The
fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through
the paths of the seas.
O
LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Psa 8:1-9
Peace
in the Storm
And then before I even catch my breath another spurt
of beauty gushes forth like a stream in a desert.
Give
unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
Give
unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of
holiness.
The
voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the
LORD is upon many waters.
The
voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of
majesty.
The
voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of
Lebanon.
He
maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young
unicorn.
The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
The
voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of
Kadesh.
The
voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and
in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
The
LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.
The
LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with
peace. Psa 29:1-11
The
Aweness of God!
Then before it sinks, another thought crashes into the
mind like a blast.
The pillars of heaven tremble and are
astonished at his reproof.
He divideth the sea with his power, and by
his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
By his spirit he hath garnished the
heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
Lo, these are parts of his ways: but
how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can
understand? Job 26:11-14
Yea the earth thunders with your glory, O God!
O that the whole world might know it!
The heavens declare the glory of God; and
the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Day unto day uttereth speech, and night
unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language, where
their voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for
the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out
of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
Psa 19:1-5
The
Goodness of God
But why
is the LORD so Good?
Because it is his nature!
I try to hate him, but I
can’t find the ground to.
I try to ignore him, but
the heart is aflame with a love that will not be stanched.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his
name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my
bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. Jer
20:9
The Lord is good because he is good!
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And God said “Let there be”, and there was!
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon
the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the
morning were the sixth day.
Gen 1:1-2, 31
From a formless void wrought with darkness, God
created a masterpiece.
Where
Wast Thou?
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations
of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou
knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Whereupon are the foundations thereof
fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
When the morning stars sang together, and
all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Or who shut up the sea with doors,
when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
When I made the cloud the garment thereof,
and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
And brake up for it my decreed place,
and set bars and doors,
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no
further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy
days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
That it might take hold of the ends of the
earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
Hast thou perceived the breadth of the
earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
Where is the way where light
dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
That thou shouldest take it to the bound
thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house
thereof?
Knowest thou it, because thou wast
then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
Hast
thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of
the hail,
Which
I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and
war?
By
what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the
earth?
Who
hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the
lightning of thunder;
To
cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the
wilderness, wherein there is no man;
To satisfy the desolate and waste ground;
and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
Hath
the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
Out
of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered
it?
The
waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is
frozen.
Canst thou bind the sweet influences of
Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
Canst
thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover
thee?
Canst
thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Who
hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the
heart?
Who
can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
When the dust groweth into hardness, and
the clods cleave fast together?
Wilt
thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
When
they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in
wait?
Who
provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander
for lack of meat.
Job 38:4-41
Behold, the Glut of His
Beauty!
I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for
thy commandments. Psa 119:131
O
the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how
unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or
who hath been his counsellor? Rom 11:33-34
Oh that men would praise the LORD for
his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
For he satisfieth the longing soul, and
filleth the hungry soul with goodness. Psa 107:8-9
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the
beauty of holiness. Psa 29:2
I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved. Son 5:1
